Number 5's Move
Number 5 is a box motor that served the H&F most on the Frederick - Thurmont line. It is only one of four pieces of equipment still surviving in any form today. It was preserved under roof at the Trolleys of Yesteryear Museum in Pennsylvania until 2006. Needing a place to put it, The HFRHS worked a deal to have it moved to the site of the Thurmont Station and it is being restored by the citizens of Thurmont.
As of this date, however, Thurmont has not given evidence of abidding with the letter of transfer. They have not consulted with us concerning the exterior restoration. Among other items, the colors they have painted it are not accurate but seem to be an attempt to match faded color photos instead. The commissioners have not submitted minutes of any meeting in which they acknowledged the role of the H&FRHS in the acquisition of #5 as required.
